FAQs

Q: At what location will I be seen?

A: For your initial gynecological consults you can be seen at our Mount Zion or Mission Bay locations.

Q: Do I have to be an existing UCSF patient to be seen?

A: No, you do not have to be an existing patient.

Q: What types of treatment do you offer?

A: There are several different types of endometriosis treatments and approaches. Your doctor will review all treatment options and will help you determine what treatment plan is right for you. Treatment may depend of the severity of the condition, age, desire for future pregnancies, and any other present conditions. Endometriosis and its symptoms can be managed by medication, lifestyle, and/or surgery.

Q: Do I need a referral for my initial consultation?

A: Referrals for initial consultations are preferred, but not required. We will need your medical history and records on file, including any imaging, before the appointment is scheduled.

Q: What is covered in the initial consultation appointment?

A: The initial appointment is most commonly a review of past medical history, a pelvic exam, and a review of treatment options. At the end of the consultation, patients are given a comprehensive care plan of next steps.

Q: What do I need to bring to my initial consultation appointment?

A: Having your medical records is a critical part of your first visit at the Center. We kindly ask that you obtain the following records from your previous Gynecologist, or Primary Care Physician, and/or Radiology Imaging Services prior to your consultation:

  • Any surgical gynecologic operative reports
  • Last gynecological visit notes
  • Radiology reports and CD images, pertinent to your care, within the last 12 months (MRI, CT, or ultrasound of your pelvis)
  • Colonoscopy report if available
  • Any notes from urology, gastroenterology, or other applicable specialties

Once confirmed for an initial consultation, please fax records to 415-885-7496. You may need to complete the Health Information Release form located here.

We also ask that you complete this form prior to your consultation. You may e-mail it to [email protected] or bring it to your appointment with you

If you have any additional questions or difficulty obtaining above records, please contact Brooke Peterson at [email protected]
